Palo Santo is an aromatic tree native to the seasonally dry tropical forests of Central and South America. A member of the Burseraceae family, Palo Santo belongs to the same family as frankincense and myrrh. When burnt, its wood releases a sweet scent, reminiscent of baked apples or burnt sugar.

Traditionally, shamans and medicine men use Palo Santo for ritual purification, employing its smoke to clear negative energies, thoughts, and spirits. Today, its usage extends to modern shamanism, incense, and setting ceremonial space. Palo Santo also finds frequent use in ayahuasca and kambo ceremonies, as well as within witchcraft and Wiccan circles.
