The plant is a perennial vine with heart-shaped leaves and clusters of small, pink or white flowers. Its roots, darkened after a special preparation process, are the part most commonly used in herbal preparations
Chinese legend regarding Hu Shou Wu has it that 'Mr He', an older man regained his youthful vitality, black hair and ability to have children after taking He Shou Wu (Translated means Mr He has black hair). According to legend he lived to a very old age!
